2005 Toyota Sequoia Evaporator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the rear A/C evaporator on 2005 Toyota Sequoia?
A: The first step for rear A/C evaporator servicing starts by draining refrigerant from the refrigeration system followed by evacuating air and adding 1050 plus or minus 50 g (37.03 plus or minus1.76 oz.) of refrigerant and leak checking the system. The radiator requires engine coolant drain yet a partial reduction in coolant level is sufficient for these procedures. The service starts by taking out the rear seat outer belt floor anchors and backdoor scuff plate and rear door scuff plate RH before removing upper back door garnish and rear window side garnish RH and finally dissolving the rear quarter trim panel RH and quarter pillar garnish RH. Before reinstallation of both tubes tighten the 2 bolts while immediately capping their ends to block moisture and dirt entry points. New O-rings require compressor oil prior to installation as a lubricant. First disconnect the air duct through three clip removal along with the cover and additional disconnect of the two air ducts and wire harness connectors. The expansion valve process begins by removing its four screws and two brackets as well as carefully prying out the packing without damage before using a 5.0 mm (0.20 in.) hexagon wrench to remove the two bolts and three further bolts to lift the A/C unit off the tube and accessory. To finish the job remove the evaporator through a process of screw removal followed by the evaporator cover then careful evaporator extraction. Installation follows the exact opposite procedures which were used for removal.
