2005 Toyota MR2 Spyder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the thermostat on 2005 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: Service of the thermostat requires engine coolant drainage followed by drive belt and generator removal as well as front engine under cover extraction. Begin service on the thermostat by disconnecting the water inlet from the cylinder block through removing 2 nuts then removing the thermostat while dismounting its gasket. Install the new gasket on the thermostat before placing it in the cylinder block while positioning the jiggle valve upward with 10 degrees tolerance from the designated spot. Install the water inlet by using the 2 nuts which should be torqued to 9 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 inch lbs.) and then secure the front engine under cover followed by the generator before installing the drive belt. Check the engine coolant level after filling the system then start the engine while examining for any leaks. Finally verify the coolant level again.
