2005 Toyota MR2 Spyder Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the rear lower Control Arm and strut rod on 2005 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: The first step to serve or fix the rear lower suspension arm and strut rod requires removing the engine under covers. The procedure to remove the strut rod involves dismantling its 2 bolts and 2 nuts without turning the nuts before torquing the bolts to 78 Nm (796 kgf-cm, 58 ft. lbs.) while stabilizing the suspension during installation. The next step involves removing the No. 1 lower suspension arm by unscrewing 2 bolts followed by 2 nuts then torquing bolt A to 87 Nm (887 kgf-cm, 64 ft. lbs.) while torquing bolt B to 103 Nm (1,051 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). At all times be sure to avoid turning the nuts before stabilizing the suspension for tool torquing. Use marker points on both parts of the No. 2 lower suspension arm before removing its nut, cam plate, and cam bolt and torquing them to 87 Nm (887 kgf-cm, 64 ft. lbs.). The nut should be removed before installation while torqueing it to 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.) using a fresh nut and following suspension stabilization. To detach the No. 2 lower suspension arm utilize Special Service Tool: 09610-20012. Perform new installation by following the reverse process of removal steps before checking the rear wheel alignment.
