2005 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the brake caliper on 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The service and repair process for brake calipers starts with removing 4-cylinder boot set rings and cylinder boots by using a screwdriver. Position a wooden plate under the piston after inserting a pad on one side before removing the piston from the cylinder with compressed air while avoiding contact with your fingers. You can remove the 4 piston seals from the cylinder through the use of a screwdriver. To inspect this component use a ruler to check pad lining thickness which must be between 11.5 mm (0.453 inch) and 1.0 mm (0.39 inch). The disc measurement with a micrometer requires inspection at 32.0 mm (1.260 inch) standard thickness and 30.0 mm (1.181 inch) minimum thickness; replace the disc if its thickness reaches or drops below 30.0 mm (1.181 inch) or if the disc reveals scoring or uneven wear. Use a dial indicator to check disc runout at 10 mm (0.39 inch) from the edge then replace it when maximum runout exceeds 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch); replace it with a new disc unless both bearing play and axle hub runout errors are normal. After removing and replacing the front axle hub it is necessary to mount a fresh disc onto the axle hub and torque the 5 bolts before completing reinstallation. Also adjust the front bearing preload if needed. Disc reassembly begins with reverse disassembly procedures while technicians must apply lithium soap base glycol grease to the specified components.
