2005 Toyota Land Cruiser Air Bag Parts Q&A
Q: What precautions should be taken when deploying an Air Bag from a vehicle equipped with an SRS on 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: Vehicle scrapping that includes SRS-equipped vehicles or disposing of steering wheel pads with an Air Bag must begin with deploying the Air Bag using the specified Special Service Tool named 09082-00700 (SRS Air Bag Deployment Tool). The deployment should occur outside the vehicle's space while the pad needs to stay 10 m (33 ft) away from the wheel during activation. You should verify the operational readiness of the Special Service Tool by connecting the red clip to the battery positive (+) terminal then the black clip to the battery negative (-) terminal without connecting the yellow connector to the supplemental restraint system. Use the pad only when the LED light turns on when activating the switch. Do not operate this tool if the light activates by itself. Owners should start by removing the front door scuff plate LH, cowl side trim LH, front door opening trim LH, and lower No.1 panel from the vehicle before installing the tool. After that, column lower cover removal can proceed while turning the steering wheel. Make sure to avoid damaging the twin lock by preventing its secondary lock from securing when connecting the Special Service Tool to the Air Bag connector of the spiral cable. The tool needs to be positioned at least 10 m (33 ft) outside the vehicle and then you should close all vehicle components and reconnect the tool to its battery. The activation switch can activate the Air Bag only when there are no occupants inside the vehicle and other people are more than 10 m (33 ft) away from the vehicle. The deployed steering wheel pad requires at least 30 minutes to cool down before handling but always utilize gloves and safety glasses together with washing your hands with water afterward. Avoid applying water to the steering wheel pad.
