2005 Toyota Echo Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the Sway Bar Kit and related components on 2005 Toyota Echo?
A: To uninstall the bar start by taking out the wheels and follow with the 2 links by holding them and taking out five retainers, 4 cushions and 2 nuts while repeating the steps on the other side. To remove the tie rod ends from knuckles pull out the cotter pin and nut, then use Special Service Tool 09628-62011 to break the rod end connection for both sides. Unfasten the lower suspension arm from each steering knuckle through removing the clip and nut while using Special Service Tool: 09628-00011 for the knuckle disassembly. Perform this step on both sides. Place the engine hood away and put the engine sling device onto the engine support ropes through bolt removal and use of Parts No.: 2 No. 1 engine hangers (12281-21010) along with bolt (91511-60818). Use all four No. 1 engine hangers (part numbers 12281-21010 and 91511-60818) installed with a 40 Nm torque and attach the engine chain hoist to those hangers. Hang the engine only from these hangers without using any other parts. Detach the engine rear point by unscrewing the bolt and 2 nuts then disconnect both tubes of power steering before removing their mount bolt. Place the transmission jack under the suspension member then remove its 4 bolts and lower the mechanism before removing the sway bar kit through its 4 bolts and 2 bracket bushings while taking out the entire bar. Begin installation process by adding the sway bar kit with 4 bolts and its parts including 2 bushings and 2 brackets then torque bolts to 37 Nm (380 kgf-cm, 27 ft. lbs.) while positioning bushings on the outside of each painted line. Follow tool number 09670-00010 with Special Service Tool to position the members' holes properly, then secure them with 4 bolts (70 Nm for Bolt A and 116 Nm for Bolt B). Tools can attach the tube clamp to the bolt and it requires 7.8 Nm torque. Next connect the pressure feed and return tubes then fasten the sliding yoke and engine mount using the bolt and two nuts before tightening these joints to 80 Nm. Safely remove the engine sling tool and put on the engine hood before securing the suspension arms to steering knuckles with the specified torque value. Put the steering knuckle tie rod ends in place with a new nut, tighten it to 500 kgf-cm (49 Nm or 36 ft. lbs.) before placing a new cotter pin and tightening the nut more if required. Install both sway bar links with 4 cushions and 5 retainers. Use 2 nuts which need to be tightened to 18 Nm (180 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs). Finally, put on the front wheels and snug them securely at 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.).
