2005 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace a factory-installed keyless entry transmitter on 2005 Toyota Camry?
A: A procedure to replace factory-installed keyless entry transmitters starts with registering the recognition code. The add mode maintains active original codes yet allows fresh ones to be added until maximum storage reaches 4 after which point the system automatically deletes the oldest codes in succession. The rewrite mode removes every previous code before new entries can be established mainly for transmitter and door control receiver replacements. The wireless door lock function becomes disabled by the prohibition mode which permanently removes all existing codes especially when transmitters are lost. The confirmation mode requires a count of existing codes before it allows a new one to be registered. Conduct the procedure only if the conditions include no ignition key and an open driver side door window and open driver door with closed others and an unlocked driver door with locked others. Selecting a mode requires using the key to enter and exit the ignition two times in less than 5 seconds followed by two driver door clicks and returning the key to the ignition then performing another two door clicks before placing the key plate inside the ignition lock and closing the driver door. The number of times to shift from ON to LOCK position of the ignition key should be performed at 1-second intervals until registration completes unless the ON-LOCK process exceeds four indications. After a choice of operating mode the theft warning ECU executes LOCK-UNLOCK commands for confirmation within a 3-second period. When using the confirmation mode without code registration the system executes a series of LOCK-UNLOCK operations five times yet conducts the procedure twice when two codes are entered. The registration process for transmitters requires dual activation of the LOCK and UNLOCK switches held for at least one second each within a 40-second time period following the selection of add or rewrite mode when the switch press intervals must be less than three seconds. A successful registration leads to a single LOCK-UNLOCK sequence during the following 3 seconds yet failure occurs twice prompting restart of the procedure. A successful registration will require a repeated LOCK-UNLOCK operation provided it occurs within 3 seconds after disabling the transmitter switch. The registration process must occur within 40 seconds from the end of previous registration while permitting only four recognition codes to be applied at each time. The system becomes ready for registration through any combination of a 40-second registration mode period or the opening of the driver's door or insertion of a key plate into the ignition cylinder or registering four codes.
