• Q: How to replace the throttle body on 2005 Toyota Avalon?

  A: Engine coolant drain followed by negative battery terminal cable removal must happen before throttle body replacement. Start by removing the V-bank cover sub-assembly together with air cleaner cap and air cleaner hose. Detach the water bypass hose from the throttle motor body assembly through disconnecting the two hose connections. The maintenance starts by disconnecting the throttle w/ motor body assembly connector followed by removing its four bolts that hold it into the intake air surge tank. This allows the complete removal of the throttle body gasket. Place the new throttle body gasket onto the intake air surge tank before you install the throttle w/ motor body assembly and wire harness clamp stay using four bolts to a torque of 10 N-m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf). After that reconnect the throttle w/ motor body assembly connector. Reconnect the water by-pass hoses to the throttle w/ motor assembly before reinstalling the air cleaner cap followed by the cable reconnection to the negative terminal and engine coolant addition and leak inspection.
