2005 Toyota Avalon Suspension Strut Rod Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the rear Suspension Strut Rod assembly on 2005 Toyota Avalon?
A: Begin with removing the rear wheel when replacing a rear strut rod assembly. The first step includes removing the bolt to disconnect the strut rod assembly then following with cable parking brake separation then further disconnection of front side strut rod using its bolt and nut but maintaining the nut in a static position. You should extract the bolt and nut together with the strut rod from the rear axle carrier and maintain control over the nut. The rear strut rod assembly should be temporarily fastened by placing the strut rod on the rear side and fixing the nut to prevent rotation before inserting the bolt from inside the vehicle. Tighten the front side strut rod by joining it to the bolt and nut when you secure the nut first. A suspension stabilizing method includes using a wooden block to lift the rear axle carrier before applying a force to align the bolt of suspension arm assembly No. 1 parallel to the center of the rear axle hub. Follow these steps when installing the rear strut rod assembly to reach a correct torque of 113 Nm (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.) for the first bolt as well as the second bolt after securing the nut. Install the parking brake cable first after tightening its bolt to 6.0 Nm (61 kgf-cm, 53 inch lbs.). Reinstall the rear wheel by torquing it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) and check the rear wheel alignment.
