2005 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Crankshaft Seal on 2005 Scion xB?
A: The process of engine rear oil seal replacement requires manual transaxle assembly and automatic transaxle assembly, clutch cover assembly, and clutch disc assembly removal first. Proceed to detach the drive plate and ring gear or flywheel after holding the crankshaft damper with Special Service Tool: 09213-58012 (91111-50845), 09330-00021. You can start the engine rear oil seal replacement by trimming the oil seal lip with a knife and extracting it with a taped screwdriver while inspecting the crankshaft for damage and gently smoothening rough areas with 400 grit sandpaper. To install the new oil seal place multipurpose grease on the lip while keeping it clean from foreign matter and then use Special Service Tool: 09223-56010 with a hammer to drive the oil seal until it reaches the rear oil seal retainer edge without applying any angled force and clean off any remaining grease. Reinstall the drive plate and ring gear or flywheel by holding the crankshaft with Special Service Tool: 09213-58012 (91111-50845), 09330-00021, applying adhesive (Part No. 09330-0070, THREE BOND or equivalent) to the cleaned bolts, and uniformly tightening the 6 bolts for the drive plate to a torque of 88 Nm (900 kgf-cm, 65 ft. lbs.) or the flywheel bolts to 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.) using new bolts, marking each with paint, and retightening by an additional 90 degrees in the same sequence while ensuring the paint marks are at a 90 degrees position from their original location. The last procedure involves putting back the clutch disc assembly alongside the clutch cover assembly along with manual transaxle assembly and automatic transaxle assembly. Afterward, inspect the vehicle for engine oil leaks.
