2005 Scion xA Drive Belt Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the drive belt on 2005 Scion xA?
A: Start by removing the two belts one after the other beginning with the fan and generator V-belt by releasing bolt A and B which then allows you to remove the V-ribbed belt from its tension. The most recent step is to remove the vane pump V-belt using the same procedures as step two. Copy the new vane pump V-belt to both pulleys and do the same for the fan and generator V-belt installation. Adjust the fan and generator V-belt tension by inserting an adjusting bar between the engine RH mount bracket and generator while pushing the bar towards the vehicle front but avoid placing the bar between the oil control valve and generator due to possible damage. Start with bolt A tightening followed by bolt B tightening for vane pump V-belt installation. The bolt A torque measurement must be 19 Nm and 54 Nm for bolt B, equivalent to 189 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs. and 550 kgf-cm, 40 ft. lbs. respectively. The vane pump V-belt requires tension adjustment using the bar that starts with bolt B torque tightening followed by tightening Bolt A to 44 Nm (449 kgf-cm, 33 ft. lbs.). The inspection should involve checking both deflection and tension of the drive belt.
