2005 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the Crankshaft Seal in a timing gear case or timing chain case on 2005 Scion tC?
A: The replacement process for timing gear case or timing chain case oil seal (2AZ-FE) starts with taking off the front wheel RH and the front fender apron seal RH. Remove the fan and generator V-belt by using these service tools: Special Service Tool 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021, 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021), and 09249-63010. Cut off the oil seal lip of the timing gear case or timing chain case using a knife then use a screwdriver with tape for prying out the broken oil seal while holding the oil seal lip with tweezers. The crankshaft should undergo inspection for damage following removal. Use 400 grit sandpaper to smoothen rough spots if any are detected. Use Special Service Tool: 09223-22010 and a hammer with new oil seal placed on the lip along with multipurpose grease to tap it into position up to the timing chain cover edge. Clean away all grease from the crankshaft. Installation of the crankshaft pulley starts with Special Service Tools: 09249-63010, 09213-54015 (91651-60855) and 09330-00021 before placing the fan along with generator V-belt. The last steps entail checking for engine oil leakage then reinstalling both the right-hand front fender apron seal and right-hand front wheel before torquing them to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.).
