2004 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front seat belt on a convertible on 2004 Toyota Solara?
A: The process to replace the front seat belt of a convertible starts with removing the rear seat cushion assembly followed by taking off the rear seat headrest plate covers and plates and rear seat headrest assemblies from both sides. The installation process of a convertible front seat belt starts with rear seat shoulder belt cover removal (LH and RH), then the rear seatback assembly, followed by front door scuff plate (LH), cup holder No.1, quarter trim panel sub-assembly upper (LH), quarter trim panel lower (LH) and front seat outer belt assembly (LH). Leaving the pretensioner disconnected for at least 90 seconds until both the power stop is off and the negative terminal is removed from the battery. The pre-tensioner needs its connector removed before unfastening three bolts and extracting the external belt. To replace the front seat inner belt assembly (LH) first remove the front seat along with disconnecting the connector before uninstalling the bolt together with freeing the inner belt. Screw and tighten the inner belt by using a bolt that requires 42 Nm (430 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf). During LH outer belt assembly installation check that the retractor has an angle less than 15 degrees and verify belt retrieval but also confirm belt locking occurs at above 45 degrees. A replacement of the outer belt assembly becomes necessary if the installation procedure does not meet requirements. Start by connecting the pretensioner connector and set floor anchor bolt to 42 Nm (430 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf). Then install the outer belt using three bolts where the first gets 7.5 Nm (77 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf) torque and the remaining bolt B receives 42 Nm (430 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf) torque. Finish by testing ELR locking upon quickly pulling the belt out. A replacement of the outer belt assembly becomes necessary when it fails to lock. The battery negative terminal must be reconnected while checking the SRS warning lamp before system initialization according to manufacturer specifications.
