2004 Toyota Solara Seat Belt Parts Q&A
Q: How to replace the rear seat belt in a convertible on 2004 Toyota Solara?
A: The first step to replace the rear seat belt in a convertible begins with taking out the rear seat cushion assembly and continuing with the rear seat headrest plate covers and headrest assemblies on both right-hand (RH) and left-hand (LH) sides. First separate the rear seat shoulder belt covers from both sides before you remove the rear seatback assembly with additional steps including front door scuff plate and cup holder No.1 as well as upper and lower quarter trim panels on the LH side. First detach the rear seat outer belt assembly LH by extracting three bolts and the belt afterward remove the rear seat inner belt assembly LH by taking off the nut followed by the belt. The CRS anchor bracket needs removal after disconnecting its two nuts and unfastening the bracket. Use a torque wrench while fastening the two nuts onto the CRS anchor bracket until it achieves 18.1 Nm (185 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf). Install the rear seat inner belt assembly LH while using the belt and nut and follow the installation procedure with a torque of 42 Nm (428 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf). Do not disassemble the retractor of the rear seat outer belt assembly LH before checking how the belt locks the ELR while maintaining a 15-degree inclination maximum. Check that the retractor belt exits when the angle is under 15 degrees unless it goes past 45 degrees where a belt lock should happen. Operator error in the specifications requires the team to exchange the existing belt assembly units. Fasten the outer belt to the seat by using three bolts where torque must be set at 42 Nm (428 kgf.cm, 31 ft.lbf). Maintain the rear belt anchor outside of the protruding parts on the rear seat adjuster while installing. The fastening system should lock automatically after the outer belt assembly is installed when you pull the ELR quickly; otherwise, change the belt assembly. The final check involves the child restraint system fastening test with an installed outside belt assembly to confirm full automatic retraction when pulling the belt to its limits and the ability to pull out and retract again after successful full retraction; replace the belt assembly if this test fails.
