2004 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you replace the Clock Spring Assembly / Spiral Cable on 2004 Toyota Sienna?
A: The replacement process for Clock Spring Assembly / Clock Spring starts with disconnecting the battery negative terminal while aligning the front wheels straight ahead. Start by removing the steering wheel cover lower Not2 and Not3 followed by the horn button assembly and steering wheel assembly through usage of Special Service Tool 09950-50013 (which includes 09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021). First detach the steering column cover through the removal of its two screws. Release the 3 claws on the clock spring sub-assy after disconnecting the Air Bag connector and the connector from this component. Substitute a new sub-assy if you discover scratches, cracks or dents on the connector surface or breaks, dents or parts of chipping on the component itself. Straighten the front wheels after installation of the new clock spring sub-assy by positioning the turn signal to neutral then removing its lock pin before fitting the steering wheel assembly. Reassemble the steering column cover by tightening its two screws after connecting both the Air Bag connector and the connector. The procedure for centering the clock spring begins by switching off the ignition and disconnecting the battery negative terminal for 90 seconds while turning the cable counterclockwise until resistance arises. Next rotate the cable clockwise for around 2.5 turns to achieve alignment by matching the marks but note that the cable will move 2.5 turns in both directions from the center. You need to install the steering wheel assembly following inspection of the center point and horn button assembly implementation. Afterward, check both components and verify proper operation of the warning light.
