2004 Toyota RAV4 Air Bag Sensor Parts Q&A
Q: How to remove and install the Air Bag Sensor Assembly on 2004 Toyota RAV4?
A: Before handling or opening the ECU cover and electrical equipment spatially, ensure absolute necessity because contact with IC terminals could result in destroyed ICs due to static electric discharge. The first step requires removal of the Instrument Cluster Finish Center Panel together with Upper Console Panel as well as Rear Console Box and Front Console Box and No.1 and No.2 Instrument Panel Under Covers. The Floor Shift Assembly should be removed in automatic transmissions while the manual transmission needs the Shift Lever Assembly disconnected. The Air Bag sensor assembly needs all its connectors disconnected before the sensor assembly is mounted for bolt removal of three securing points. The new Air Bag sensor assembly requires three bolts to be tightened up to 15 N.m (155 kgf.cm, 11 ft.lbf) followed by connecting the Air Bag sensor connectors after complete sensor assembly installation. The sensor assembly requires the specified torque for installation but the owner must replace it with a new one in case the assembly has droppend or exhibits any defects. The SRS wiring must be installed in a way that avoids all physical contact with other components and then shake the sensor assembly after installation to check for looseness. The installation process begins with the Floor Shift Assembly for automatic transmission but switches to the Shift Lever Assembly for manual transmission. The following steps involve No.1 and No.2 Instrument Panel Under Covers, Front Console Box, Rear Console Box, Upper Console Panel and finishes with the Instrument Cluster Finish Center Panel.
