2004 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the windshield glass on 2004 Toyota Prius?
A: The windshield glass replacement process starts by taking out the roof headlining assembly components including front door scuff plates LH and RH, cowl side trim boards LH and RH, front door opening trim Weather Strips LH and RH and front pillar garnish corner pieces LH and RH, front pillar garnishes LH and RH, visors LH and RH, visor holders, assist grip and map lamp while partially bending down the roof headlining but not actual removal. Conduct the removal process on the inner rear view mirror along with the cowl top ventilator louver by unfastening the hood cowl top seal followed by the front wiper arms on both sides. Cut off the windshield moulding carefully from outside with a knife before removing the windshield glass through piano wires and wire handles while taking precautions not to damage paint or ornaments. Apply white gasoline to clean the outer circumference of the windshield glass after removing damaged stoppers, dam, and adhesive through scraping. Clean the body surface by removing bad adhesive and wiping it down with a cleaner on a shop rag. The installation process of windshield glass stopper No. 2 includes applying Primer G to the installation portion then letting it dry for more than three minutes followed by attaching 2 new stoppers to the glass. The installation requires two new stoppers attached to the vehicle body structure for windshield glass stopper No. 1. The window glass adhesive dam installation section needs coating with Primer G followed by drying time before applying new double-sided tape on the glass surface except where stoppers will go. The glass should be positioned using a suction cup to maintain evenness on its contact surface while you mark reference points before taking the glass off again. Apply Primer M to the opened vehicle body sections before primer M dries and apply Primer G to the glass edges and touching surfaces while removing all residue before drying. The glass surface needs adhesive application through cartridge nozzle cutting followed by insertion into a sealer gun and applying the adhesive to the glass surface. When placing the glass on the vehicle body align its reference marks and gently push it against the rim but maintain a small opening between the vehicle body and glass component. Follow the adhesive removal process with a scraper then install the windshield moulding on the exterior before the adhesive hardens. Once the adhesive fills solid you should conduct a leak test before applying auto glass sealer to seal any detected leaks.
