2004 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Radiator Cooling Fan Motor on 2004 Toyota Prius?
A: The replacement process for FAN (1NZ-FXE) Radiator Cooling Fan Motor begins with disconnecting REAR FLOOR BOARD NO.2, DECK FLOOR BOX REAR, and REAR FLOOR BOARD NO.3. Proceed by disconnecting the BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL followed by removing the RADIATOR SUPPORT OPENING COVER along with ENGINE UNDER COVER LH and ENGINE UNDER COVER RH. The first step to drain engine coolant requires draining the engine side radiator coolant followed by radiator drain cock plug removal and final draining from the hybrid side radiator. Start by disconnecting the FRONT BUMPER COVER with the FAN ASSY W/MOTOR as well as removal of necessary connectors and hoses using hose clamps and unfastening components like the inverter bracket and cooler bracket. You must remove the 2 nuts before taking off the fan piece with its integrated motor. To install the fan, apply 6.2 Nm torque to the fan before setting the fan with motor in place followed by tightening four bolts to 7.5 Nm torque. Reinstall the hood lock control cable to the radiator support after securing the radiator support through installing 5 bolts with torque values of 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.). The installation process includes reattaching the hood lock assembly together with horn connector and cooler bracket and inverter bracket that require specific torque specifications. Connect all indicated hoses then install the 2 hose clamps at the fan shroud while verifying proper connection security. The service procedure ends by putting on the FRONT BUMPER COVER then installing the BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL using a torque of 6.0 Nm (61 kgf-cm, 53 inch lbs.) before reinstalling the REAR FLOOR BOARD NO.3, DECK FLOOR BOX REAR, and REAR FLOOR BOARD NO.2. Engine coolant needs to be added to hybrid and engine radiators before the technician checks for leakages in both systems. The technician then needs to install ENGINE UNDER COVER RH, ENGINE UNDER COVER LH, and RADIATOR SUPPORT OPENING COVER while initializing POWER WINDOW CONTROL SYSTEM.
