2004 Toyota MR2 Spyder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install a windshield on 2004 Toyota MR2 Spyder?
A: A process to remove the windshield begins by taping the screwdriver tip to prevent damage followed by removing the wiper arm head cap alongside both wiper arms and their respective 2 nuts. Proceed by unfastening the cowl top ventilator louver through the removal of 5 screws and 6 clips before extracting it using a screwdriver. First remove the removable roof hook by unscrewing the two screws before using the screwdriver to remove the front pillar garnishes from both sides. The windshield sun visors can be removed through the disconnection of 4 screws followed by map light assembly removal with its cover and 2 screws and plug separation. To remove the front roof headlining trim and the inner rear view mirror use a screwdriver along with pushing the cover and sliding the mirror off. Cut the windshield outside moulding with a knife while protecting the body from damage before inserting a piano wire between body and glass to remove the windshield glass. Tie wooden blocks to the wire and cut the adhesive with caution to the wire harness and paint. You need to use a knife along with cleaner to prepare the body contact surface and then clean the removed glass and match new No.1 stoppers with ceramic notches on the glass. First apply double-stick tape to the new dams followed by correct glass positioning and reference point marking before cleaning the glass contact surface. Apply Primer "M" on the body contact area before allowing it to dry and use Primer "G" on the glass edge before wiping off any remaining material. Properly lubricate cartridge Part No. 08850-00801 adhesive and insert it into a sealer gun and proceed to paint the glass surface. The installation requires windshield glass alignment with reference marks while using suction rubber followed by light pressure before necessary adhesive adjustment for new windshield moulding application and protection with tape until complete adhesive hardening. Reinstall the inner rear mirror, front headliner, map light, sun visors, pillar garnishments and ventilator mount before conducting a leak check and completing installation with wiper arm headcap adjustments.
