2004 Toyota Matrix Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel injectors in the Fuel Injector Assy on 2004 Toyota Matrix?
A: Preventing the spillage of gasoline requires the first step to be fuel pressure release before Fuel Injector Assy (1ZZ-FE) fuel injector replacement. You must remove the cylinder head cover No.2 with its 2 nuts and 2 clips removed. Disconnect the ventilation hose on the cylinder head cover and proceed by removing 4 fuel injector connectors while detaching the engine wire through all 3 wire harness clamps on clamp brackets. Use Special Service Tool: 09268-21010 to detach the EFI fuel pipe clamp followed by installing the tool to the connection before turning it for retainer alignment while sliding it towards the fuel tube assembly. Clean around the connector's area before disconnecting the nylon tube from the connector while preventing bending of the nylon tube. Push-pull forces on stubborn connectors followed by vinyl bag coverage for protection when disconnecting the pipe and connector. Unsemble the fuel delivery pipe sub-assembly by removing the 3 bolts followed by the 4 fuel injectors with caution not to let them fall before taking away the 2 spacers from the cylinder head. Fit new insulators onto the 4 fuel injectors which are extracted from the fuel delivery pipe. New O-rings need a thin layer of spindle oil or gasoline before mounting them onto each injector using only spindle oil and gasoline as tools and avoiding engine oil and gear oil and brake oil in the process. Before inserting the fuel delivery pipe injector use spindle oil or gasoline to coat the O-ring contact points then while twisting it into position avoid twisting the O-ring. An inspection of the injector movement is necessary after installation;Replace the injector with new rings if smooth rotation is not achieved. The installation of the fuel delivery pipe sub-assembly includes mounting two spacers onto the cylinder head before fastening the pipe with four injectors through three bolts where both Bolt A requires 19 N.m (194 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf) torque and Bolt B requires 9.0 N.m (92 kgf.cm, 80 in.lbf) torque. Throughout this process ensure the injectors stay in their place. Attack the fuel tube to the fuel delivery pipe while inspecting it for damage along with foreign objects but pull on it to confirm a safe connection. Affix the cylinder head cover No.2 with its associated 2 nuts, as well as 2 clips while torquing the bolts to 7.0 N.m (71 kgf.cm, 62 in.lbf). Complete this step by verifying no fuel leaks are present.
