2004 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to overhaul an A/C Condenser on 2004 Toyota Highlander?
A: The first step to overhaul the cooler condenser assembly requires draining HFC-134A (R134A) from the system with Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080). First detach the battery [28800 /9]98-150] and afterward detach the radiator grille [53111]. The first step separates cooler refrigerant discharge pipe A [88715A /98-191] by unbolt it and disconnecting this pipe from the condenser assembly. Remove the O-ring afterward and apply vinyl tape over the opening. Proceed with cooler refrigerant liquid pipe A [88716A /98-191] maintenance by eliminating the bolt to disconnect it while removing the O-ring prior to sealing the opening. The cooler condenser assembly [88460/98-191] can be removed by unfastening 2 bolts from the radiator upper supports which opens the way to slide the upper radiator section backward. You should use socket hexagon wrench 10 to remove the cap and filter of the cooler dryer [88474 /98-191] before taking out the 2 O-rings and removing the device with needle nose pliers. Placing the cooling dryer inside the condenser assembly requires needle nose pliers and new O-rings on the cap for application with compressor oil. Secure the cap using torque of 12.3 N.m. The lower bush of the cooler condenser assembly installation [88460 /98-191] should be placed into the cross member while two bolts at 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 87 in.lbf) torque should secure the bush and the radiator upper support bolts should also be tightened to the same torque value. Use pipe A of the cooler refrigerant liquid system [88716A /98-191] by removing the vinyl tape before installing a new O-ring to the joint and applying compressor oil to the O-ring and pipe section before tightening with a bolt which requires a torque of 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf). The process also applies to cooler refrigerant discharge pipe A [88715A /98-191]. First remove the vinyl tape as the operator installs a new O-ring then applies compressor oil to both the pipe and O-ring before securing it with a bolt at equal torque value. Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58060, 07117-58070, 07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080) shall be used to charge the refrigerant according to its specified amount of 650 + 50 g (22.93 + 1.76 oz.) while warming up the engine for leak inspection.
