2004 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the fuel injector on 2004 Toyota Camry?
A: Instead of fuel injector replacement start by draining the engine coolant and releasing fuel system pressure. Unfasten the center part of the front suspension upper brace through its two nuts and separating the upper brace. The procedure begins by separating the MAF meter connector along with four vacuum hoses, ventilation hose No. 2 and fuel vapor feed hose from the 2 hose clamps as a result of disconnecting these components from the air cleaner cap sub-assembly and V-bank cover sub-assembly. The next step involves loosening the 2 air cleaner cap bolts and air cleaner hose clamp bolt for removing the air cleaner cap and filter element. You must disconnect the emission control valve set on 1MZ-FE engines using these steps: unplug the 3 VSV connectors followed by wire harness clamp removal then detachment of fuel vapor feed hoses No. 1 and No. 2 and 3 vacuum hoses and finally stripping the clamp and 2 nuts. Service the 3MZ-FE engine type by removing the clamp and 2 nuts and 2 vacuum hoses and disconnecting fuel vapor feed hoses No. 1 and No. 2 as well as the wire harness clamp and 2 VSV connectors. To access the intake air surge tank start by disconnecting the throttle motor connector followed by separating water bypass hoses No.2 and No.3 along with the union to check valve hose and ventilation hose, then remove the 3 nuts and 2 bolts for engine hunger No.1 as well as the 2 bolts for surge tank stays No.1 and No.2 using a socket hexagon wrench 8 to eliminate 4 bolts and finally remove the 2 nuts, emission control valve bracket and intake air surge tank with its gasket. The team must first separate Fuel Pipe Sub-Assembly No. 1 by dissembling fuel pipe No. 1 bolt and extracting the fuel pressure pulsation damper and two gaskets while also removing the fuel pipe No. 2 union bolt and additional two gaskets. First disconnect all six fuel injector connectors then remove four bolts and two fuel delivery pipes with the six fuel injectors while keeping the injectors secure before removing four delivery pipe No. 1 spacers ( 1) and six insulators ( 2) from the intake manifold. Next pull the fuel injector from the fuel delivery pipe. Installation of the fuel injector assembly requires first placing new grommets on each injector followed by applying a light coat of grease or gasoline to a new O-ring before installing it to each injector. The procedure ends with applying grease or gasoline where the fuel delivery pipe meets the O-ring before pushing the fuel injector into the delivery pipe while twisting it back and forth to check injector smoothness and prevent O-ring twisting. The process requires installation of 6 new insulators and 4 delivery pipe No. 1 spacers to the intake manifold followed by placement of the 2 fuel delivery pipes and 6 fuel injectors on the manifold then temporary bolt installation of 4 fuel delivery pipe nuts which should be tightened to 10 N.m (102 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf). Start by connecting the 6 fuel injector connectors then proceed with fuel pipe sub-assembly No. 1 installation along with its 2 new gaskets followed by installation of the fuel pipe No. 2 union bolt at 33 N.m. Next, install the fuel pressure pulsation damper with 2 new gaskets at 33 N.m and finish with fuel pipe No. 1 bolt installation at 20 N.m. Install a new gasket to the intake air surge tank, then install the intake air surge tank and emission control valve bracket with 2 nuts at a torque of 28 N.m (286 kgf.cm, 21 ft.lbf), tighten the 4 bolts with a socket hexagon wrench 8 at the same torque, and install surge tank stays No. 2 and No. 1 with 2 bolts each at a torque of 20 N.m (204 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf), followed by engine hunger No. 1 with 2 bolts at the same torque, and the pressure feed tube with 3 nuts at a torque of 7.8 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 69 in.lbf). Connect the ventilation hose, union to check valve hose as well as water bypass hoses No. 2 and No. 3 after which join the throttle motor connector. The installation of the emission control valve set requires a torque of 8.0 N.m (82 kgf.cm, 71 in.lbf) for both 1MZ-FE and 3MZ-FE engine types before attaching the air cleaner cap sub-assembly using 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf). The procedure requires checking the vacuum hose connection while adding engine coolant and inspecting for engine coolant and fuel leakage then installing the V bank cover sub-assembly and the front suspension upper brace center using 80 N.m (815 kgf.cm, 59 ft.lbf) torque with upper brace and two nuts.
