2004 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module in the Antilock Brake System on 2004 Scion xB?
A: Brake fluid drainage must precede the Antilock Brakes Brake Actuator Assembly replacement process. This is followed by cleaning off the paint-adhered fluid residue. Separate the battery from the car followed by removing the actuator connector by releasing its locking mechanism. The brake tubes that connect to the actuator must be disconnected with Service Tool: 09023-00100 while noting their original positions ahead of reinstallation. The brake actuator with bracket is detached by removing 3 bolts prior to separating the brake actuator assembly from its bracket with a nut along with two bolts. Installation begins with attaching the bracket and its two nuts and applying 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.) torque before proceeding to install the brake actuator with bracket using three bolts tight to 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). Use Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to attach each of the 6 brake tubes in proper sequence on the brake actuator before torquing to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Finally, join the brake actuator connector. The battery installation process begins with fluid addition to the reservoir and master cylinder bleeding through Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 followed by brake line bleeding. Clean the fluid reservoir to check its level and look for brake fluid leaks along with verifying the actuator functionality through a handheld instrument.
