2003 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the Shock Absorber on 2003 Toyota Sienna?
A: Following these instructions start the suspension strut coil spring service by using 2 nuts and a bolt on the bracket at the lower side to secure the shock absorber in a vise then compress the coil spring with Special Service Tool: 09727-30021 while avoiding an impact wrench due to damage risks to the tool. Begin suspension support detachment by securing Special Service Tool: 09729-22031 to the support before removing the retaining nut. Ubolate the suspension support and bearing dust cover along with strut thrust bearing and spring upper seat, upper insulator, coil spring, spring bumper, and lower insulator from the shock absorber. Components of the shock absorber require assessment through complete rod movement for identifying signs of resistance and strange noises. Before disposing of the shock absorber rod users must fully extend the rod then drill a hole through the cylinder while protecting against flying debris. The shock absorber receives the lower insulator first and then requires the spring bumper installation onto the piston rod. After that compress the coil spring yet again by using Special Service Tool: 09727-30021 until the lower end fits as it should within the spring lower seat gap. Place the 'OUT' mark of the spring upper seat on top of the upper insulator mark before adding both components to the shock absorber with their marks directed outward. The bearing dust cover and strut thrust bearing along with suspension support need installation after which user should screw down the new nut using Special Service Tool: 09729-22031 until torque reaches 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.). After removing Special Service Tool: 09727-30021 from the coil spring properly place the bearing inside the recess in the suspension support.
