2003 Toyota Sequoia Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the liftgate lift support on 2003 Toyota Sequoia?
A: Begin by sliding the clip from the back door stay before pulling it out from the back door using hand support. The clip application followed by movement enables the removal of both the bolts and back door stay from the body. When replacing it is essential to drill a small hole (2.0 - 3.0 mm) at the bottom of the back door stay to release high-pressure gas before disposal but ensure protective safety since chips may escape during the drilling process. Maintain proper handling of the back door stay by keeping the piston rod free from scores and scratches while blocking any paint or oil from reaching it. You must not rotate the piston rod and cylinder while the back door stay extends completely. Secure the new back door stay to the body and then attach it to the back door by torquing all bolts to 19 N.m (195 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf).
