Toyota Sequoia Liftgate Lift Support Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the liftgate lift support on Toyota Sequoia?
A: The process to change the back door stay begins by sliding the clip to detach the back door yet supporting the door with your hand and then sliding the clip to extract the bolts together with the back door stay from the body. Before throwing away the back door stay drill a tiny 2.0 - 3.0 mm (0.079 - 0.118 in.) hole in its bottom portion since this will allow release of high-pressure gas while taking precautions since the process releases small chips from drilling; the gas remains colorless non-toxic and odorless. Carefully handle the back door stay and maintain the piston rod from any helmet-style marks or scratches while blocking paint and oil from touching it. Prevent turning the piston rod and cylinder at maximum back door stay extension. The new back door stay needs bolting to the body part and subsequent torquing to 19 N.m (195 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf) while final bolt attachment to the back door requires the same torques.
