2002 Toyota Sequoia Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and replace the liftgate lift support on 2002 Toyota Sequoia?
A: Begin by sliding the clip to detach the back door stay from both the back door and support it with your hand. The clip needs to be slid for a second time to extract both the bolts and back door stay from the body. Drilling a hole between 2.0 and 3.0 millimeters (0.079 and 0.118 inches) at the bottom of the back door stay allows pressure to escape before disposal but handle the flying chips during this procedure. Handle the back door stay with care since disassembling it or scratching the piston rod should be avoided while preventing paint and oil from contacting it. Avoid rotating the piston rod alongside the cylinder when the back door stay operates in its maximum extension position. Apply 19 N.m (195 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf) of torque when securing both the bolts and back door stay to the body before hooking them up to the back door with matching torque force.
