2003 Toyota Sequoia Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair fuel injectors on 2003 Toyota Sequoia?
A: Servicing and repairing fuel injectors requires starting with the throttle body cover followed by removal of the intake air connector and fuel pressure pulsation damper. Service technicians should remove the upper gasket and lower gasket and fuel main hose. Select placement of a shop towel under the delivery pipe and perform a gradual loosening of the pulsation damper during this process. Connectors need removal from PCV valve and VSV connector for EVAP and EVAP hose before removing the VSV for EVAP from the intake manifold. The throttle body cover bracket needs to be separated by unbolt the single bracket fastener. Then disconnect the engine wire from the No. 1 engine hanger and engine wire bracket while also unfastening the two clamps securing the engine wire to the RH delivery pipe brackets. Carefully remove the delivery pipes and injectors, ensuring not to drop the injectors, by first removing the bolt holding the clamp on the fuel return pipe to the LH delivery pipe, followed by the bolt, two union bolts, four gaskets, and front fuel pipe, then disconnect the eight injector connectors and remove the four nuts holding the delivery pipes to the lower intake manifold, finally taking out the two delivery pipes, eight injectors, four spacers, and eight insulators, and removing the O-ring and grommet from each injector. A new grommet should be positioned on each injector followed by a small gasoline treatment for new O-rings before installation where each injector should be pushed into the delivery pipes with the connectors facing outward. Mount the front fuel pipe with the bolt and four new gaskets and two union bolts before tightening the union bolts to 39 N.m (400 kgf.cm, 29 ft.lbf) and the bolt to 7.5 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf). After that install the spark plugs, two gaskets, and two special washers. Apply the bolt that holds the clamp onto the LH delivery pipe and fuel return pipe before torquing it to 7.5 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf). Test the free movement of injectors before discarding the O-rings if any are obstructed. Fasten the delivery pipes to lower intake manifold with four nuts that should be torqued at 21 N.m (214 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) and secure the eight injector connectors. Reinstall the engine wires by hooking the two clamps of the engine wire to the brackets located on the RH delivery pipe then attaching the engine wire clamps to the No. 1 engine hanger and engine wire bracket while installing the engine wire protector with two bolts. You should start by connecting the PCV hose to its valve and installing the upper intake manifold VSV for the EVAP while connecting both the EVAP hose and the VSV connector for EVAP afterward. Then install the throttle body cover bracket followed by the fuel pressure pulsation damper and intake air connector together with the throttle body cover. Operating on injectors requires users to discard the O-ring and exercise caution during new O-ring placement and treat the O-ring with spindle oil or gasoline which must be used to coat points at which the delivery pipe or intake manifold meets the injector O-ring.
