2003 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module for Antilock Brakes on 2003 Toyota Corolla?
A: Draining brake fluid must be the first step in Hydraulic Control Assembly for Antilock Brakes replacement before washing off affected painted areas. Use the Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to disconnect six brake tubes from the actuator after removing the front wheel RH and the front fender liner RH and disconnecting the actuator connector and taking out the brake actuator with bracket. You should first label the tubes for reassembly before unscrewing the nut and removing the two bolts to detach the actuator with bracket. Proceed to detach the brake actuator from its bracket by taking off the 3 mounting nuts. Install the brake actuator on the bracket while torquing the 3 nuts to 4.7 Nm (48 kgf-cm, 42 inch lbs.) and use the nut and 2 bolts to attach the brake actuator with bracket at 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). Use the original tool to connect the brake tubes back into their appropriate positions on the brake actuator before torquing them to 15.2 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Then proceed with connecting the brake actuator connector. To continue reinstall the front fender liner RH along with the front wheel RH with wheel torque set to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). The mechanic needs to fill the brake fluid reservoir before using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to bleed the master cylinder and brake line and check the reservoir fluid level and conduct tests for brake fluid leakage while verifying that brake actuator functions correctly with a hand-held tester.
