2003 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the exhaust pipe on 2003 Toyota Camry?
A: Service and repair of the exhaust pipe begins with removing the oxygen sensor by disconnecting its connector followed by sensor removal. Start by removing the exhaust pipe No.1 support bracket through the removal of its 2 nuts before using 2 bolts to detach the second support bracket. Begin by removing the exhaust pipe assembly front followed by the floor panel brace rear removal through unscrewing of its 2 bolts. Remove the exhaust pipe assembly center followed by the exhaust pipe damper (A/T transaxle) along with the exhaust pipe assembly tail. Begin installation using the exhaust pipe assembly tail followed by the exhaust pipe damper (A/T transaxle) but be cautious to install the damper without reversing direction while installing the 2 bolts that require 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.) torque. Using a new gasket the exhaust pipe assembly center must be installed to join the tail pipe and achieve a torque setting of 56 Nm (571 kgf-cm, 41 ft. lbs.). Install the exhaust pipe assembly front by using new gaskets for front pipe and center pipe and front pipe and exhaust manifold converter connections with torques of 56 Nm (571 kgf-cm, 41 ft. lbs.) and 62 Nm (633 kgf-cm, 46 ft. lbs.), respectively. To complete the installation place the exhaust pipe No.1 support bracket then bolt it with 2 fasteners at 33 Nm (337 kgf-cm, 24 ft. lbs.) torque while the second support bracket gets the same fastener tightening. Installation of the oxygen sensor requires 44 Nm (450 kgf-cm, 33 ft. lbs.) torque while checking for exhaust gas leaks.
