2002 Toyota Camry Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the exhaust pipe on 2002 Toyota Camry?
A: Service and repair of the exhaust pipe starts with oxygen sensor removal by disconnecting its connector followed by sensor extraction. The first step consists of removing the exhaust pipe No. 1 support bracket through removal of 2 nuts and then proceeding to remove the second support bracket with its 2 bolts. First remove the exhaust pipe assembly front while also taking out the floor panel brace rear through the removal of its two bolts. The first step requires removing the exhaust pipe assembly center along with the exhaust pipe damper (A/T transaxle). Then take out the tail pipe assembly. Start your installation by attaching the tail pipe assembly before fixing the exhaust pipe damper (A/T transaxle) with 2 bolts which need to be torqued to 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.) while being aware of the correct installation direction. The exhaust pipe assembly center requires installation onto the tail pipe using a new gasket while torquing it to 56 Nm (571 kgf-cm, 41 ft. lbs.). The floor panel brace rear needs to be installed with a torque of 19.5 Nm (199 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.) before proceeding with the exhaust pipe assembly front installation. This requires new gaskets and requires the connection to the center pipe at 56 Nm (571 kgf-cm, 41 ft. lbs.) followed by.connection to the exhaust manifold converter at 62 Nm (633 kgf-cm, 46 ft. lbs.). Fasten the exhaust pipe No. 1 support bracket with 2 bolts that need 33 Nm (337 kgf-cm, 24 ft. lbs.) of torque and perform the same bolt tightening procedure on the second support bracket. The oxygen sensor needs to be installed with a torque of 44 Nm (450 kgf-cm, 33 ft. lbs.) while inspecting the exhaust gas for leaks.
