2003 Toyota 4Runner Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to overhaul the A/C Condenser on 2003 Toyota 4Runner?
A: Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080) must be used to execute the first step of HVAC condenser overhaul by discharging refrigerant from the refrigeration system. Separate the discharge hose sub-assy by eliminating its bolt and O-ring with proper tightening then seal both ends with vinyl tape to block moisture and foreign matter access. The process of air conditioning tube assy disconnection follows the same procedure. Use removal steps to take off cooler condenser cushion No.2 through unfastening the nut together with four bolts, and then proceed to remove cooler condenser cushion No.1 via four bolts. A 14 mm hexagon wrench will be used to remove cooler condenser core and cooler dryer components starting with the cap and filter before extracting the O-ring and cooler dryer with needle nose pliers. Install the new cooler dryer with needle nose pliers while applying new O-ring and compressor oil (ND-OIL 8 or equivalent) to the fitting surfaces and secure the cap using torque at 2.9 N.m (30 kgf.cm, 25 in.lbf). Reinstall the cooler condenser cushions by attaching their bolts with nuts at 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf). Then fasten cooler condenser bracket No.1 with the corresponding nut at this torque value. The installation process for the air conditioning tube assy requires you to first remove vinyl tape before applying compressor oil to the new O-ring then installing it and securing the connection between tube and cooler condenser assy through tightening its bolt at 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 47 in.lbf). Before securing the discharge hose sub-assy with the same torque bolt you must lubricate the new O-ring with compressor oil. For the final step use Special Service Tool: 07110-58060 (07117-58060, 07117-58070, 07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070, 07117-88080) to charge the refrigerant with 650 plus or minus 30 g (22.92 plus or minus 1.06 oz.) after engine warming and leak inspection.
