The first step involves removing three nuts alongside a wire clamp and water inlet and thermostat from the water pump before extracting the thermostat gasket. The thermostat requires water immersion and gradual water temperature increase until the valve opens between 80 - 84 degrees Celsius (176 - 183 degrees Fahrenheit). Any deviations from this interval call for a thermostat replacement. The thermostat requires replacement when the valve lift stays below 8.5 mm (0.335 inch) during the 95 degrees Celsius (203 degrees Fahrenheit) test. Replace the thermostat when the low temperature valve remains open below 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). During installation first place a new gasket on the thermostat before installing it with the jiggle valve pointing downwards and tightening the water inlet bolts to 20 Nm (200 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). Connect the lower radiator hose before filling the engine with coolant which enables starting the vehicle to search for leakage. Finally verify engine coolant levels once more.
