How to service and repair the Neutral Safety Switch on 2002 Toyota Tacoma?

The service process for Transmission Position Switch/Sensor requires first removing both the front exhaust pipe and heat insulator. The service requires separation of the oil cooler pipe through three clamp removal steps and proper disconnect of the lock cooler pipe. Begin by taking off both the elbow and O-ring followed by the park/neutral position switch by disconnecting its connector and removing the lock washer and nut and bolt and switch. To install the new park/neutral position switch and bolt you must tighten them with 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.) torque then fasten a new lock plate and nut with 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 inch lbs.) torque while bending the lock plate claws for safe nut retention. Readjust the park/neutral position switch while you connect the electrical connector. You should place the elbow along with a fresh O-ring on the torque point of 34 Nm (350 kgf-cm, 25 ft. lbs.) and proceed to install the oil cooler pipes by torquing them until they reach 34 Nm (350 kgf-cm, 25 ft. lbs.) before reinstalling the 3 oil cooler pipe clamps. Install both the front exhaust pipe and heat insulator at the end of the maintenance work.
