2002 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the throttle body on 2002 Toyota Sienna?
A: Service and repair operation for the throttle body entails draining engine coolant before you can remove the V-bank cover by using a 5 mm hexagon wrench to dismount the 3 cap nuts while loosening the fastener counterclockwise until you can remove the cover. The service should start by disconnecting the PCV hose and vacuum hose from the VSV for active engine control then dislodging the air cleaner hose with resonator after unfastening the 3 hose clamps. The repair process starts by detaching accelerator and throttle cables followed by unbolting the throttle body from the throttle body bracket while using 19.5 N.m (200 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf) of torque. Then separate the throttle position sensor connector and IAC valve connector and disconnect wire clamps and water bypass hoses from the intake manifold to water inlet housing and air assist hose with the fuel vapor feed hose from emission control valve set and vacuum hoses from both No.1 ACIS VSV and the vacuum tank for the ACIS. Mount the installation of the air intake chamber with a new gasket by torqueing the 3 nuts to 29 N.m (300 kgf.cm, 22 ft.lbf). When installing a new throttle position sensor keep the unit from sudden physical shocks and do not open or work on the throttle opener system. Replacement of the throttle position sensor requires the removal of two screws followed by new sensor installation and confirmation of constant throttle valve shut position. The sensor should be inserted counterclockwise at between 30 degrees and 60 degrees against this position before screw tightening. Begin by removing the 4 screws from the IAC valve while also taking off its bracket and valve together with the accompanying gasket before securing the new gasket against the No.1 throttle body followed by installing the new IAC valve along with its screws and bracket. The throttle body replacement process begins by removing the 2 screws of the protector before removing 6 screws along with No.1 throttle body, No.2 throttle body and 2 gaskets from No.1 intake air control valve. Install new gaskets along with 2 new O-rings and put back new No.1 and No.2 throttle bodies using 6 screws while applying torque of 6.9 N.m (70 kgf.cm, 61 in.lbf).
