2002 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Neutral Safety Switch on 2002 Toyota Sienna?
A: Service work on the Transmission Position Switch/Sensor should start by taking away the engine under cover. Detach the park/neutral position switch connector before removing the switch by first disconnecting the shift control cable and unbolting the nut then afterwards removing the nut and washer along with the control shaft lever. The service and repair of the Transmission Position Switch/Sensor begins by removing the engine under cover and continues with connector disconnection from the park/neutral position switch. Next, remove the two bolts that secure the park/neutral position switch followed by extracting the nut and finally the lock plate. The park/neutral position switch should be mounted with the 2 bolts using 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.) torque for installation or adjustment. After screwing a new lock plate and nut to 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 inch lbs.), bend the lock plate claws and attach the control shaft lever using 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Install the shift control cable nut with 15 Nm (150 kgf-cm) torque and 11 ft. lbs. measurement. Test the engine starting capability by verifying its ability to start only in N or P positions using the park/neutral position switch after reconnecting its connector. Adjustments should be performed if starting is possible when the lever points elsewhere. Finish by putting back the engine under cover and drive test the vehicle.
