2002 Toyota Celica Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the throttle body on 2002 Toyota Celica?
A: Service and repair operations for the throttle body must start with draining engine coolant and accelarator cable disconnection. The service starts by removing the No.2 cylinder head cover followed by unattaching the MAF meter and air cleaner hose and cap through VSV for EVAP disconnection and removal of two air hoses from the air cleaner cap and air cleaner hose clamp bolt loosening and disconnecting the mass air flow meter connector, and finishing with the three air cleaner cap clip removal. Cut the throttle body air cleaner hose loose then remove the air cleaner cap while also taking out the hose. To remove the throttle body disconnect the throttle position sensor connector as well as the IAC valve connector and PCV hose from the throttle body. When servicing the 1ZZ-FE engine you should first remove two bolts before disconnecting the No.2 water bypass pipe followed by disconnecting the two water bypass hoses. Remove the throttle body from its position on the intake manifold by first breaking the two bolts and two nuts which secure it. Likewise remove the throttle body gasket. The installation procedure starts by applying a new intake manifold gasket before you can mount the throttle body with two bolts and two nuts. Torque these hardware pieces to 21 N.m for the 1ZZ-FE engine and 22 N.m for the 2ZZ-GE engine. Reconnect the water bypass hoses to the throttle body while reinstalling the No.2 water bypass pipe with two secure bolts for the 1ZZ-FE model, then restore the IAC valve connector and throttle position sensor connector and PCV hose connections at the throttle body. The completion of this procedure requires installing the air cleaner hose and MAF meter and No.2 cylinder head cover and adding engine coolant to the radiator.
