2001 Toyota Celica Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the throttle body on 2001 Toyota Celica?
A: The first step to fix the throttle body requires coolant drain and accelerator cable removal from the engine. The MAF meter service process starts by removing the No.2 cylinder head cover. Subsequently remove the air cleaner hose and cap with the MAF meter by disconnecting the VSV for EVAP, the two air hoses from the air cleaner cap, loosening the air cleaner hose clamp bolt, disconnecting the mass air flow meter connector and by removing the three air cleaner cap clips. The air cleaner hose needs removal from its position on the throttle body before extracting the air cleaner cap together with the hose. The throttle body removal requires users to disconnect the throttle position sensor connector and IAC valve connector and the PCV hose from the throttle body. Fluences of the No.2 water bypass pipe require the removal of two bolts followed by disconnecting both water bypass hoses for the 1ZZ-FE engine. Disconnect and remove the throttle body gasket by unfastening its two bolts and two nuts that secure it to the intake manifold. The installation requires you to put a new gasket on the intake manifold of both 1ZZ-FE and 2ZZ-FE engines before securing the throttle body with its two bolts and two nuts while tightening them to 21 N.m (210 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lb) for 1ZZ-FE and 22 N.m (220 kgf.cm, 16 ft.lb) for 2ZZ-GE. You should install the throttle body water bypass hose and place back the No. 2 water bypass pipe using its two bolts for the 1ZZ-FE before reconnecting all connectors between the IAC valve and throttle position sensor and PCV hose to the throttle body. The last step requires you to mount the air cleaner hose alongside its cap and MAF meter before replacing the No.2 cylinder head cover and filling your engine coolant into the radiator.
