2002 Toyota 4Runner Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Neutral Safety Switch on 2002 Toyota 4Runner?
A: The first task when servicing the Transmission Position Switch/Sensor requires disconnecting the park/neutral position switch connector. The procedure to remove the park/neutral position switch begins by dismantling the lock washer then the nut before extracting the bolt along with the switch. Install the park/neutral position switch by first locating it properly and then secure it with the bolt which must reach 13 Nm torque (130 kgf-cm or 10 ft. lbs.). Start by pushing a new lock plate into place along with its nut before torquing it to 3.9 Nm (40 kgf-cm, 35 inch lbs.). Afterwards tighten the lock plate claws against the nut. Complete the process by setting the park/neutral position switch then return the park/neutral position switch connector to its housing.
