2001 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and replace the windshield on 2001 Toyota Sienna?
A: The windshield removal process requires starting by removing the front door scuff plates along with cowl side boards, front door opening trim covers and front pillar garnish. A screwdriver taped at the tip allows for this operation. The connector for the tweeter speaker must be disconnected when present. The sequence for removal includes taking off sun visors and holders, help grip components and the sliding roof opening trim moulding if present. Detach the roof drip side channels together with the roof console box and its lenses (XLE and LE grades special) and the glasses box followed by the front side of roof headlining and wiper arms after removing clips and washer hose connections and checking hood to cowl top seal and cowl top ventilator louvers. To remove the outside moulding use a rivet cutter connected to a drill to cut the rivet flanges properly before removing it and performing the same operation on the opposite side. Proceed to cut off the upper outside moulding with a knife yet take care not to harm the body structure followed by inserting piano wire between interior glass and body before tying down wooden blocks at both ends. First apply adhesive tape on the outside to avoid scratches and after using piano wire to cut the adhesive users should keep as much adhesive as possible on the body surface. After cleaning the contact surface of the body keep adhesive on it while cleaning the removed glass through scraping and cleaning steps. New stoppers and dams should be installed after proper cleaning of the installation sites followed by adhesive tape application. Position the glass properly for correct alignment and inspect for equal contact. Clean the reference point markings then proceed to wipe the glass contact surface and apply Primer "M" to the body components while using Primer "G" exclusively on the glass edges. Instillation requires Part No. 08850-00801 or equivalent adhesive application while following usage timing instructions before placing the glass in position and referring to marked points until protective tape secures the glass until adhesive hardens. The glass installation process ends with a leak test followed by applying sealant material (Part No. 08833-00030 or equivalent). Place adhesive on the moulding installation spot and add the upper outside moulding before inserting outside moulding using either an air riveter or a hand riveter. To complete assembly first reinstall the cowl top ventilator louvers together with the hood to cowl top seal followed by wiper arm positioning and nut tightening to 20 N.m before installing the front side of roof headlining with glasses box roof console box and roof drip side channels as well as sliding roof opening trim moulding if applicable, assist grip, sun visors and holders, front pillar garnishes, front door opening trim covers, cowl side boards and front door scuff plates.
