2001 Toyota Prius Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Brake Master Cylinder on 2001 Toyota Prius?
A: Before servicing the Brake Master Cylinder you must mount it into a vise using Special Service Tools: 09630 00014 or 09631-00142 along with 09950-60010, 09951-00180 or 09951-00190. After loosening the lock nut remove both the clevis and the lock nut by following the torque specifications of 26 Nm (265 kgf-cm, 19 ft. lbs.). Start by taking off the cylinder boot before trying to remove the pistons through piston compression with a screwdriver and using a pin or equivalent to push out the snap ring from the body hole then removing it with another screwdriver. Carefully pull the No. 1 and No. 2 pistons directly without any angle to safeguard the cylinder bore then remove the plug. Rust assessments and scoring inspections of the cylinder bore should be performed before checking for damage on the cylinder which requires cleaning or replacement if needed. Reassemble the parts in the opposite order of disassembly while applying lithium soap base glycol grease to rubber components showing arrows but avoid damaging rubber pistons as indicated by the arrows.
