2001 Toyota Prius Brake Booster Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the hydraulic brake booster on 2001 Toyota Prius?
A: Start the hydraulic brake booster service repair by using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to extract the brake actuator tube at 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs. torque). First remove 2 clips together with suction hose then detach the 4 bolts securing brake power supply bracket No. 3 with a torque of 7.8 Nm (80 kgf-cm, 69 inch lbs.). Begin the pressure switch removal by first loosening 2 bolts then a clamp before untightening brake booster pump bracket No. 1 at 7.8 Nm (80 kgf-cm, 69 inch lbs.), followed by separate removal of 3 bolts on brake booster pump bracket No. 2 at the same torque. Disassemble the booster pump wiring harness through removal of two screws followed by connector deconnection from the connector bracket and dismissal of the bolt and clamp and bracket at 7.8 Nm (80 kgf-cm, 69 inch lbs.). Tighten each brake power supply bracket No. 1 and No. 2 securing bolt with an equal torque to 7.8 Nm. Set the booster pump inside a vise wrapped in protective cloth before using Special Service Tool: 09318-12010 to extract the accumulator by loosening two washers, three cushions, two collars, and one sleeve with a proper torque of 54 Nm (550 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.). Complete the removal of the spring along with silencer tube while also removing an O-ring to avoid foreign matter entry into the compression area. Use a battery's positive (+) lead to connect with terminal 1 of the pump motor followed by connecting the negative (-) lead to terminal 2 to evaluate the operation of the motor. Disposal of the accumulator starts with draining the high-pressure gas before using a cloth cover and vise along with a saw to make slow body cuts while being mindful of sustained cutting that releases gas from the outer body. Following disassembly procedures the assembly steps are completed backward.
