2001 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the throttle body on 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The service process of the throttle body starts with removing the V-bank cover while draining engine coolant and unattaching the intake air connector. The first step to remove the throttle body involves disconnecting the accelerator cable at the throttle body. Next disconnect the sensor connectors of throttle position and throttle control as well as accelerator pedal position and accelerator pedal position sensor wire from their clamps. The throttle body needs to be detached from the intake manifold by first removing the ventilation cap along with the PCV hose and water bypass hose from the throttle body then unfastening its 2 bolts and 2 nuts. The water bypass hose attached to the manifold thermostat requires removal along with its gasket. While replacing the throttle position sensor follow these steps: remove its connector and the two set screws then put in a new unit with the throttle valve adjusted to 5.5 degrees. Follow the specified placement by rotating the sensor by 150 degrees and adjust it to the required throttle opening range of 14.4-16% through use of a TOYOTA hand-held tester or an OBD II scan tool. Verify that the throttle valve reaches the standard closed value between 10-14%. Turn off the ignition system before painting both screws on the sensor assembly. Then detach the tester device from system connections. When changing the throttle control motor one should begin by taking off the throttle position sensor then disconnect the throttle control motor connector before removing all six screws that secure both the motor cover and motor assembly and washer. Install a new throttle control motor by placing the wave washer correctly between the pin holes while applying grease to the teeth of the gears. After installation of the motor cover complete its connection to the throttle control motor connector. Before installing a new accelerator pedal position sensor you must remove its three set screws and then ensure the throttle valve rests at an opening angle of 40 degrees Screw the 3 set screws of the accelerator pedal position sensor to 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf) while installing the sensor at 200 degrees from its specified position. Installation requires using new throttle gasket and torquing 2 bolts and 2 nuts to 18 N.m (185 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf). Reconnecting all parts must include the accelerator cable alongside the intake air connector. The system needs an engine coolant flush to complete the procedure. Begin the engine to inspect coolant leaks before you replace the V-bank cover.
