2001 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and install the front Air Bag sensor on both the left-hand and right-hand sides on 2001 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: You can uninstall the left-hand front Air Bag sensor after removing the battery carrier and battery followed by disconnecting the sensor connector while the assembly stays installed. The two bolts securing the front Air Bag sensor need to be removed through the windshield washer tank opening as shown in the illustration. The right-hand side front Air Bag sensor removal process requires disconnecting its connector in the same way before using a wrench to remove the two bolts. To mount the front Air Bag sensor place the side with the arrow pointing toward vehicle forward and tighten it at 20 N.m torque (205 kgf.cm and 15 ft.lbf) so that the sensor meets its exact installation torque requirements. Discontinue use of sensors showing indications of drops or possessing cracks, dents or defects and install new pieces instead. An electrical connection lock system on the front sensor requires proper engagement when connecting the connector because improper locking may trigger diagnostic system malfunction codes. Attach the front Air Bag sensor connector after reinstalling all parts which were uninstalled.
