Toyota Land Cruiser Air Bag Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and install the Air Bag Sensor Assembly safely on Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The Air Bag Sensor Assembly removal process begins with avoiding unnecessary exposure of ECU cover and electrical devices because touching IC terminals can produce static electricity that destroys the IC chips. The first step involves removing the combination of seven components including front seat, upper console panel, rear end console panel, heater control, rear console box and front console box and center lower cluster finish panel assembly before proceeding with Air Bag sensor assembly removal. You can disconnect the Air Bag sensor connector from the installed position by using a torx wrench (T40, Part No. 09042-00020 or a local tool equivalent). This enables removal of the three screws holding the Air Bag sensor assembly in place. The installation of SRS parts should begin with fresh components instead of secondhand parts from other vehicles and must use new replacements for all parts particularly when an Air Bag deploys or if a sensor participated in an impact. The assembly needs to be installed through the torx wrench with its three screws tightened to 20 N.m (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf) after which the Air Bag sensor connector can be attached. Follow the torque instructions when installing the sensor assembly and always purchase a new component if the assembly shows damage or has experienced any drops. Thoroughly check SRS wiring to prevent it from getting stuck between other components while also avoiding pinches until the entire replacement process is complete. After assembly installation shake the sensor to check for loose connections before reinstalling all parts.
