2001 Toyota Highlander Ball Joint Parts Q&A
Q: How to replace the lower ball joint assy front lh on 2001 Toyota Highlander?
A: The first step to replace the lower ball joint assy front LH demands the removal of the front wheel and front axle hub LH nut by using Special Service Tool: 09930-00010. First dispose of the speed sensor front LH together with the front disc brake caliper assembly LH and front disc. Continue by using Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 to separate the tie rod assembly LH followed by the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH. Begin replacement of the front axle LH assembly and lower ball joint front LH by using Special Service Tool 09628-62011. The inspection of the front LH lower ball joint assembly requires flipping the ball joint stud opposite directions five times before applying the nut. A torque wrench operating at 3 - 5 seconds per turn should be used to apply continuous force until the fifth turn reaches a resistance reading between 0.98 - 3.43 Nm (110 - 35 kgf-cm and 8.7 - 30 inch lbs.). Start installation with the lower ball joint assembly front LH before adding the front axle assembly LH as well as the front suspension arm sub-assembly lower No.1 LH and the tie rod assembly LH and the front disc and the front disc brake caliper assembly LH followed by the speed sensor front LH. First tighten the front axle hub LH nut to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm) while reinstalling the front wheel. As the last step check the ABS speed sensor signal along with front wheel alignment and their subsequent adjustment.
