The process of lower ball joint removal begins by first removing the dust deflector using a screwdriver when ABS is present before dissolving the cotter pin and nut. The lower ball joint removal requires the use of Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 to complete the work. When inspecting the lower ball joint rotation perform five flips of the ball joint stud before reinstalling its nut. The procedure requires the torques nut gradually each 2-4 second turn before recording the fifth turn measurement that should be within 1.0-2.9 Nm (10-30 kgf-cm, 8.7-26 inch lbs.). The installation process begins with securing the lower ball joint at 124 Nm (1,260 kgf-cm, 91 ft. lbs.) torque then adding a new cotter pin which should be correctly aligned because otherwise tighten the nut by 60 degrees. Special Service Tools: 09950-60020 (09951-00890), 09950-70010 (09951-07150) and a hammer are required to install the new dust deflector while ensuring a correct alignment of the ABS speed sensor hole in the deflector with the corresponding hole in the steering knuckle. End the procedure by reinstalling the front axle hub.
