2000 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the ball joint on 2000 Toyota Corolla?
A: The ball joint repair starts with hub front axle removal then continuing with lower ball joint service by removing the ABS-equipped dust deflector with a screwdriver before disconnecting the pin and nut. The Special Service Tool 09628-62011 enables the detachment of the lower ball joint. The ball joint stud needs five reverse motions before nut installation to check lower ball joint rotation during inspection. Apply a torque wrench to turn the nut in incremental 2 to 4 seconds per turn over five rotations up to 1.0 - 2.9 Nm. The measured torque should fall within the specified range of 10 - 30 kgf.cm or 8.7 - 26 inch lbs. Start with ball joint installation followed by tightening the nut to 124 Nm then apply new cotter pin through its proper holes; avoid alignment issues by tightening the nut more for up to 60° if needed. Use Special Service Tool: 09950-60020 (09951-00890) with 09950-70010 (09951-07150) and a hammer to install the new dust deflector with proper alignment between the dust deflector and steering knuckle ABS speed sensor hole. Reinstall the front axle hub as the last step.
