2001 Toyota Celica Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install a windshield on 2001 Toyota Celica?
A: Begin by taking off the front pillar garnish with a screwdriver while taping the tip to protect the surface from damage. Unzip the map light assembly in all vehicles by first taking off its lens portion then removing both screws and disconnecting the electrical connection. Use a moulding remover to take off the cover on vehicles with sliding roofs after you unscrew their single roof map light screw and disconnect the connector. Take out the sun visors along with their brackets and the inner rear view mirror. You can uninstall the wiper arms after getting rid of their two head caps and nuts. Untwist four screws and six clips to take out the cowl top ventilator louver and hood to cowl top seal. Disconnect the washer hoses afterwards. To access the windshield replace the sliding roof opening when present then lower the front part of the roof headliner before cutting the windshield outside molding carefully to prevent body damage. You can remove a windshield glass by inserting piano wire between the body and glass then to wooden blocks then disconnect the front window defogger connector if present lastly cut the adhesive with piano wire while covering the safety pad with plastic sheet. Shape the impacted surface of the body while keeping all possible adhesive in place and handle removed glass with care to prevent damage. Install new stoppers Number 1 to their corresponding notched positions on the vehicle body when needed. Install new ceramic No.2 stoppers on the glass exactly where the ceramic notches are positioned. Put double-stick tape onto new dams before placing glass at the right position and testing all contact points. Apply Primer "M" to the exposed black-colored surface of the body part and let it dry for at least three minutes. Use Primer "G" to coat the border of the glass then remove the surplus material before the product dries. Put adhesive from Part No. 08850-00801 on the windshield glass surface while working within the stated time frame and position the glass by matching its reference marks. Press the glass gently to achieve good bonding and make any needed adjustments before installing the molding when the adhesive has not yet dried. Secure everything with tape support until the glue becomes firm. Look for leaks after the adhesive dries and make required repairs. Reinstall all components in their proper placements including the front roof lining, ventilation louvers, hood-to-cowl seal, wiper arms, interior mirror, sun visor holders, sun visors, map light assembly and front guide trim.
