2001 Toyota Celica Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the ABS Control Module for Antilock Brakes on 2001 Toyota Celica?
A: The first step when servicing the Hydraulic Control Assembly starts with removing all components of the battery including its hold-down clamp and battery tray. The service starts by detaching the master cylinder followed by the ECM and ECM bracket removal after unbolt the three fasteners to slide the ECM aside then remove the harness clamp along with the bolt and nuts that secure the ECM bracket while tightening them to 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). Begin by using Special Service Tool: 09023-00100 to disconnect two connectors after which you should proceed with brake line removal using a torque setting of 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). The hose clamp from the actuator bracket underneath needs to be disconnected followed by removing the bolt and nut while disassembling the ABS actuator assembly that requires a torque of 19 Nm (195 kgf-cm, 14 ft. lbs.). Continuing to disconnect the 2 nuts and remove the ABS actuator from the actuator bracket using a torque of 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.) then extract the 2 holders and 3 cushions from the ABS actuator. Brake fluid filling and brake system bleeding operations followed by leak check must occur during installation and removal of the actuator.
