2000 Toyota Tundra Water Pump Parts Q&A
Q: How to Service and Repair a Water Pump on 2000 Toyota Tundra?
A: Begin the water pump service process by draining engine coolant followed by timing belt and the No.2 idler pulley removal. Preparation for water pump service begins with disconnecting the water bypass hose from the water inlet housing followed by unfastening the 2 bolts that secure the water inlet housing to the water pump. The housing can then be removed from the front water bypass joint while extracting the water inlet and inlet housing assembly along with its O-ring from the water inlet housing. The necessary step involves removing five bolts as well as two stud bolts and a nut followed by the water pump and gasket which allows access to an O-ring located in the water bypass pipe. Check the water pump for coolant leakage through examination of the air hole and water hole while performing a replacement if leakage occurs. You should rotate the pulley until the water pump bearing moves with quiet and smooth operation while you should replace the water pump when required. The fluid coupling procedure starts with removing 4 nuts and a fan and subsequently examining the components for damages and silicon oil leaks before new replacement when reinstalling the fan with the 4 nuts torqued to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 47 inch lbs.). Feel free to inspect the fan pulley bracket as well as check the condition of timing belt components. When installing the water pump use a new O-ring at the water bypass pipe terminal which needs soapy water application before linking the pump to its pipe while applying the water pump with fresh gasket along with five bolts and two stud bolts and one nut following even torque pressure of 21 Nm (215 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.) for bolts and 18 Nm (185 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.) for stud bolts and nuts. Seal packing (Part No. 0882-00100 or equivalent) must be applied to the sealing groove of the water inlet housing followed by installing a new O-ring that has been prepared with soapy water. The front water bypass joint hole should receive the water inlet housing and the two bolts must screw in with alternating torque at 18 Nm (185 kgf-cm, 13 ft. lbs.) before water bypass hose connection and installation of No.2 idler pulley and timing belt. Check the engine coolant level after addition of coolant and engine start as well as leak inspection throughout the process.
